What is God’s Greatest Commandment?
In the Holy Bible, someone came to our Lord Jesus Christ and asked this question. Our Lord Jesus Christ replied:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Mark 12:30, HOLY BIBLE
Loving God—the Lord of heaven and earth—is the greatest commandment. But in our country and around the world, many people claim to love God, yet their lives and decisions do not show that love.
When asked, “Do you love God?”, most people say “Yes, I do.” Yet people live far from the righteousness and morals God desires. The righteousness God expects often does not align with the righteousness created by human reasoning. People rarely ask themselves whether God approves of what they consider right, and they continue to live as though God approves everything they believe is good.
But we must show our love for God by obeying His commandments, because faith and love without action are empty.
Saying “I love God” without trying to learn or obey His principles of righteousness is a sign of not loving or even ignoring God. However, God wants us to keep Him above everything in every situation.
In our environment, in our families, and in our lives—no matter who it is—we must warn against thoughts and actions that do not align with God’s will. We must not stay silent just because the wrongdoer is close to us or has authority over us. We must not support ongoing wrongdoing.
In every place and situation, we should be able to say without shame or fear: “Continuing in this way is not in line with God’s will.”
Remember, God created us holy and to live in fellowship with Him. If we love God and live according to His will, He will always be with us, and we will be victorious in every situation.
If today you want to show your love for the Lord by living it out at the highest level through your actions, start by reading the Holy Bible. Begin to live the life God offers through the teachings of Jesus Christ, which bring eternal life and hope.
